TOKYO FASHION AWARDの審査員に任命された時の気持ち。
本当に、恐縮しております。新しくできたアワードの第1回審査員として、日本のデザイナーが世界に活躍の場を広げるお手伝いが、少しでもできればと思いました。
世界に数あるアワードの中で、TOKYO FASHION AWARDはどのようなアワードだと思いますか。
世界での活動を視野に入れているが、あと一歩踏み出せないデザイナーたちの、背中を押す、「きっかけ」となるアワードではないかと考えます。
どのような点を重視して審査されましたか。
・独自のスタイルがあるか。
・それを手に取り、お金を出して、欲しいと思って着る人が想像できるか。
・海外では為替などの関係で、日本よりも高いプライスで店頭に並ぶが、その際に他のブランドに引けを取らない、通用する服作りをしているか。
TOKYO FASHION AWARDや東京のブランドに期待することは？
TFA：海外の有名なアワードのように、それを受賞したことが、世界的にもステイタスとなるような、栄誉あるアワードとなるか、ブランドを支援する賞金を授与したり、工場背景の紹介など、受賞したあと、ブランドにとって本当に成長できるアワードとなることを期待する。ブランド：ここ2～3年、韓国や、東南アジア、中国など、かつてはあまり見かけなかったアジアの国々から、素晴らしい才能のデザイナーたちが、輩出されている。オリジナルのスタイルがあることはもちろんだけれど、国内独自のファッショントレンドではなく、世界基準のモードとしての服作りをしていることが、成功の鍵ではないかと思う。日本人がその中に最近出ていないような気がします。ぜひがんばってほしいです。
How did you feel when you were appointed as a jury for the TFA?
I am really greatful. As a judge of the 1st audition, I hoped to be able to help the Japanese brands in even the slightest terms to widen their appeal in the world.
Globally, fashion contests and awards have been increasing. Of these, what type of award do you think the TFA is?
I believe this is an award that presents an "opportunity" to give a supportive push to the designers who have been eyeing the international market but were unable to take another step towards it.
Points of Judgment (What types of points were emphasized when judging?)
・Does it have a unique style?
・Can it be imagined that people would pick it up, would want it and pay for it?
・Due to exchange rates, the products hit the store shelves overseas with a higher price than in Japan. Are the garments of a quality that will not be outdone by other brands under such circumstances?
Things to expect from the TFA itself and entry brands (Tokyo brands)
TFA: I hope that the TFA becomes an honorable award just like other reputable awards overseas, such that winning the award would be a matter of status throughout the world. Also, I expect it to become an award such that winning the award would translate into actual growth for the brand, such as receiving the prize-money that would support the brand, introduction of the background of the workshop etc.Brand: In the past 2-3 years, designers with great talent have been appearing one after the other from several Asian countries such as South Korea, South-east Asian countries and China, which were never seen in the past. They certainly have original styles, but I think that creating garments of global standards rather than following the fashion trend of one's own country, is key to success. I have a feeling that Japanese designers do not appear to be amongst those designers recently. I really want them to work hard.
